Iridium services on land include worldwide voice, paging, Short Message Service (SMS) and data communications using lightweight, handheld phones and paging devices.
Iridium World Satellite Service
Iridium's voice service features:
- One phone number to the aircraft worldwide
- Call forwarding and restriction options
- Message notification
- Personal mailbox for voice mail and text messages
- Secure communications via Iridium's independent network infrastructure
- Enhanced services supported on the Iridium 9505A Portable Satellite Phone and/or a EuroCom Fixed Mount Unit
Iridium World Data Service
Iridium offers two global data services:
- Dial-Up Data Service at rates up to 2.4 kbps
- Direct Internet Data featuring transparent compression for data transmission rates of up to 10 kbps
Iridium World Paging Service
Iridium offers global messaging through the Motorola Satellite SeriesTM 9501 Pager. Features include:
- Stand-alone or Follow Me PagingTM
- Alphanumeric messages up to 120 characters or numeric messages up to 20 digits
- Transmission of mobile terminated messages to the pager via Internet or e-mail free of charge
Short Message Service (SMS)
Receive and send short messages directly through the Iridium terminal and/or L-Band Transceiver (LBT). Service features include:
- Two-way global text messaging
- Up to 160 alphanumeric characters in a single message
- Transmission of messages to a pager via the Internet or e-mail free of charge
Iridium Prepaid Services
Prepaid SIM service, which can be used with all Iridium equipment, is ideal for situations where there is one phone and one user.
